| The
LPOSSA Tournament, played at the LPR Sports Ground, was a most
enjoyable event and served to assist the squad in their preparations
for the upcoming APFSCIL League season.
RISSC
Team 1 competing in a five team group qualified for the knock-out
stages by finishing as runners-up. Their group record was:- P4
W2 D1 L1 Pts.7
The
team progressed through the quarter-final stage by virtue of a
penalty shoot out success. Hero of the victory was goalkeeper
Tim Nagle who saved three opposition penalties.
A
two goal salvo from RISSC 1s player of the tournament, Dan Healy
was the catalyst for an excellent 3-1 semi-final success.
The
final was an extremely close fought affair between two very tired
teams and it came as no surprise when extra time failed to separate
them and the destination of the trophy was decided by a penalty
shoot out. Fortune did not favour RISSC 1 on this occasion and
the team had to settle for the runners-up position.
Squad:
Tim Nagle, Dan Healy, Gary Stockwell, Mark Stockwell, Mauricio
Carillo, Liam Burke, Paul Franklin.
RISSC
Team 2 played in a four team group and just managed to reach the
knock-out stages by stint of a better goal difference following
three draws. Much credit for the progression must go to Adrian
Ward who had an excellent Tournament.
Things
looked brighter for the team in the quarter-final where goalkeeper
Darren Nolan gave a fine performance and with player of the season
Mick Coffey on the scoresheet again, victory by 3-1 was achieved.
The optimism of this victory was thwarted, however,
with defeat in the semi-final.
Squad:
Darren Nolan, Adrian Ward, Karl McGee, Mick Coffey, Donnie Mullan,
Jon Carey.
