Club Team consolidate second place in APFSCIL League
RISSC (London) 4-2 London Scottish SC- Sunday 19 October 2008
The RISSC (London) football team continued their winning run in the APFSCIL League Division One on Sunday afternoon with a convincing 4-2 victory over London Scottish SC at their home ground in Sudbury Hill. With league leaders Middlesbrough SC being held to a draw, RISSC have closed the gap at the top to one point.
Manager Paul Franklin made one change from the previous Sunday with Chris Coleman replacing the absent Richie Dempsey.
RISSC got off to an excellent start with Michael Dunford getting on the end of a through pass from left back Adrian Ward to find the net after ten minutes. Constant pressure on the Scottish goal followed and the second goal came on the half hour mark, when RISSC were awarded a free kick just outside of the penalty area. Up stepped Chris Coleman to curl the ball into the top left hand corner, making it two nil.
As half-time approached, the visitors hit back with a scrambled goal following a corner kick, to reduce the lead to a single goal. With just seconds remaining in the half, RISSC responded in dynamic fashion with an opportunistic goal from Chris Coleman. The striker caught the opposition completely unawares with a long range strike directly following the kick off on the half way line, to restore the two goal advantage.
Following the resumption, RISSC continued where they left off in the first half and went close to extending the lead on number of occasions. Their perserverence was eventually rewarded with a fourth goal from Michael Dunford who got on the end of a ball swung in from the right hand side to score his second of the game. As the match entered the final stages, substitute Mick Coffey came close to making it five, however, it was the visitors who scored a second just before the final whistle.
There will be a break from league action next Sunday, with RISSC entertaining Blackburn Rovers SC in the first round of the League Cup. League action will continue the following Sunday with a home fixture against unbeaten Stoke City SC.
