Ireland win again in Women's EURO 2009 qualifiers...27/10/2007
The Republic of Ireland, managed by Noel King, scored a 2-1 EURO 2009 qualifying success over Romania in Richmond Park this afternoon. The Irish goals both came in the first half from, Michelle O'Brien and Stephanie Curtis. The visitors did pull a goal back but Ireland were in command throughout and have further consolidated their second place position in Qualifying Group 2


U17 Women succumb to Sweden but still qualify...24/10/2007
The Republic of Ireland Women's Under 17 team was defeated 2-1 in their final UEFA Group 6 qualifying match by favourites Sweden in Antalya, Turkey this afternoon. Ireland matched the highly rated Scandanavians throughout the match and were worthy of at least a draw. Ireland's runners-up position means they qualify for the next Elite Stage as one of the best second placed teams.


Stephen Staunton departs Ireland role...24/10/2007
A short press release, issued in the early hours of this morning, confirmed that Stephen Staunton and the FAI have reached agreement to terminate his contract as manager of the Republic of Ireland soccer team. Coaches Kevin McDonald and Alan Kelly have also departed. Under 21 manager Don Givens will take charge of the side for the final EURO 2008 qualifier against Wales next month.

Butler's Boys claim victory in Armagh...23/10/2007
The Republic of Ireland Under 16 side, managed by Vincent Butler scored a 1-0 success over Northern Ireland at Holm Park, Armagh City this evening. Cherry Orchard centre back Mark O'Brien scored the winner in the 35th minute. Butler's Boys dominated throughout and were unlucky not to succeed by a greater margin

The Republic of Ireland Under 16 side, managed by Vincent Butler was defeated on a 2-1 scoreline by Northern Ireland at Lakeview Park, Loughall this evening. Robert Brady of St Kevin's Boys scored the goal for Butler's Boys.

Derry City lift Enda McGuill Under 21 Cup ...21/10/2007
Derry City striker David McDaid scored the only goal of the game after twelve minutes to defeat a gallant Bray Wanderers, for whom the impressive Jamie Duff was very influential, in today's final of the Enda McGuill Under 21 Cup.

International call-up for St Kevin's players...20/10/2007
The RISSC (London) sponsored St Kevin's Boys U15 team is without a fixture this weekend as five players from the club have been selected in the Republic of Ireland Under 16 squad to play two fixtures against Northern Ireland on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Robert Brady, Conor Carberry and Conor Murphy are in the Monday squad while Anthony Bolger and Jeff Hendrick are in the Tuesday squad.

Dismal display draws gasps of disbelief...17/10/2007
The bright shoots of hope engendered by the performance against Germany were shattered in Croke Park this evening. A Steve Finnan goal in the 92nd minute provided Ireland with an undeserved equaliser against Cyprus in a one all draw. With very few exceptions, the team failed to build on their promising outing of Saturday and the majority of supporters left the Stadium aghast with disbelief at a very poor performance.

Under 21s lose UEFA Qualifier in Cork...16/10/2007
Republic of Ireland U21 manager Don Givens expressed disappointment only with the result, a 3-0 defeat by England, in tonight's UEFA qualifier played at a packed Turner's Cross.
Two bad individual errors and a deflected goal gave the visitors a three goal advantage after 27 minutes. Ireland played with passion, poise and purpose throughout the match and must be staggered at the severity of defeat, which in no way reflected the balance of play.

The Irish Defence Forces exited the World Military Games today when they were defeated 2-0 by Qatar at the quater-final knockout stage.

Ireland lose heavily in Military World Games ...14/10/2007
The Irish Defence Forces final group fixture against holders Egypt resulted in a 7-0 trouncing today. Despite the result, Ireland had already qualified for the quarter-final stage where they will meet Qatar on Wednesday.

St Kevin's Boys disappointed with draw...14/10/2007
St Kevin's Boys conceded a last minute equaliser to old rivals Belvedere at the AUL Complex this morning. A superb individual goal from Robbie Brady gave St Kevin's the lead but Belvedere drew level with a cracking free kick which gave goalkeeper Ryan Kinsella no chance. St Kevin's regained the lead on the stroke of half time when centre back Cian Bolger powered home a header from a Brady corner. The boys had a number of chances to put the result beyond doubt but failed to score. They paid the ultimate penalty in the last minutes when Belvedere scored following a corner.

Superb victory for Under 21s in Sweden...12/10/2007
Republic of Ireland U21 manager Don Givens and his team received a major confidence boost for their UEFA Championship meeting with England in Cork on Tuesday 16 October with a fine win in Sweden today. Goals from Aidan Downes, Stephen Quinn and substitute, Alan Sheehan, gave Ireland a well merited 3-2 victory over the hosts in Uppsala.

The Irish Defence Forces second fixture against the Guinea Republic resulted in a 1-1 draw today. In the other Group A match, holders Egypt scored a 5-0 success over Canada. Ireland next meet Egypt on Sunday 14 October 2007.

eircom League of Ireland First Division...11/10/2007
A Trevor Vaughan goal mid-way through the second half secured a one nil victory for Dundalk over Monaghan United in Oriel Park tonight. Dundalk now join Cobh Ramblers in second place in the eircom League of Ireland First Division, one point behind leaders Finn Harps.

The Irish Defence Forces got their Group A campaign at the 4th CISM Military World Games, off to an excellent start in India this morning, with a 4-1 victory over Canada. In the other Group A match, holders Egypt scored a 3-1 success over the Guinea Republic. Ireland next meet Guinea on Friday morning 12 October 2007.

Club Football Team win seven goal thriller ..10/10/2007
The RISSC (London) football team secured their first league points of the season with an exciting 4-3 victory over perennial rivals Glasgow Rangers SC on Sunday afternoon. The RISSC goals came from Mick Coffey, Mick Dunford, Peter Reilly and Shaun Ryan.

Derry City lift eircom League Cup in extra time...09/10/2007
A magnificent Kevin McHugh strike during the first period of extra-time gave Derry City the eircom League Cup, their third in a row, in a one nil victory over Bohemian FC at the Brandywell tonight. Two committed sides played out a scoreless draw in normal time, just as they had done in both their league meetings this season. McHugh's twenty yard shot was worthy of winning what was a gripping encounter throughout.

Changes to U21 squad for Sweden and England...09/10/2007
Republic of Ireland U21 manager Don Givens has been forced to make a number of changes to his squads for the upcoming fixtures with Sweden and England. Out through injury are, skipper Darron Gibson, defender Darren Dennehy, goalkeeper Shane Supple together with Keith Keane and Keith Treacy. Ipswich Town striker Billy Clarke is also an injury doubt, but will join up with the squad tomorrow. The replacements are Bristol City goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, full back Seamus Coleman from Sligo Rovers, Alan Judge of Blackburn Rovers and Aidan Downes from Everton.

Cork City clung on to their eircom League of Ireland Premier Division title aspirations with a 2-1 victory over UCD in Belfield Park tonight. The win cuts the gap to Drogheda United at the top, to eight points with both sides having five matches to play, including a head to head in United Park on Friday 19 October 2007.

St Kevin's Boys continued their winning ways in the DDSL U15 Premier League with a fine 2-0 victory over Home Farm at the AUL Complex this morning. Galway native Ethan Mannion scored both goals for the boys, who now lead Cherry Orchard by two points after six league matches.

Clean sweep for Irish UEFA U19 Women...02/10/2007
The Republic of Ireland Under 19 Women's team completed their 2008 UEFA qualifying campaign with a well merited 3-2 victory over top seeds Switzerland this morning to win Qualifying Group 8. First half headers from skipper Louise Quinn and Aine O'Gorman together with a late Noelle Murray penalty underpinned this deserved success.

Senior Squad for home UEFA 2008 double header...02/10/2007
Manager Stephen Staunton this afternoon announced his expected twenty five man squad, which sees the return of Stephen Carr, Steve Finnan, Alan O'Brien, Darren Potter, Stephen Elliott and, after a lengthy injury absence, Joey O'Brien for the European Championship qualifiers against Germany and Cyprus in Croke Park on Saturday 13th and Wednesday 17th October 2007. The squad includes Stephen Hunt and Paul McShane who are both suspended for the Germany game. Goalkeeper Wayne Henderson is not available because of injury.
