Club team suffer more disappointment

RISSC (London) Club TeamThe trauma of the previous week’s crushing opening league defeat by Norwich City SC remained firmly in evidence during the first half of today’s encounter with Stoke City SC. A five goal deficit before half time was not what manager Paul Franklin, returned from holiday, anticipated.

RISSC were without Tim Nagle, Mark O’Connor, Gary Stockwell and long term injury victim Martin Flannery. There were five new faces to the squad and a degree of early uncertainty was not entirely unexpected, however, the manner of the first half collapse was a severe shock to manager and players.

Franklin introduced Paul Lavelle and new addition Richie Dempsey at the start of the second half and together with a marked improvement from their onfield colleagues the tide began to turn. Goals from Laoisman Dempsey and another new signing Shane Manogue brought a small degree of respectibility to proceedings.

The final score of 6-2 following on from last week’s 9-5 disaster is a major disappointment but Franklin and his squad remain confident that the situation will improve. With another week to work on the integration of the new signings and the return of those players who were unavailable, Franklin will have a much stronger squad for next Sunday’s opening home fixture against Exeter City SC. The match will kick off at 2.00pm at the LPR Sports Ground, Sudbury Hill.
