Irish Schools share Centenary Shield

The FAI Schools (FAIS) team recently travelled to Holm Park, Armagh where they were held to a 1-1 draw by Northern Ireland Schools (NIS). The result means that both Associations finish the league on seven points and the Centenary Shield is shared. As holders of the Celtic Cup, FAIS retain that trophy.

In Armagh, FAIS had the greater amount of possession during the first half and deservedly took the lead on 35 minutes when Seamus McCabe released Adam Rooney down the right. Rooney cut inside and drove the ball home from a very acute angle.

NIS were the better side in the second half and on 55 minutes scored a very fine goal through Allen Reid. The ball was received by Reid just inside the centre circle and he strode through three tackles and unleashed an unstoppable left footed shot.

FAIS were fortunate to remain on level terms with goalkeeper, Michael Boyle who is registered with Finn Harps performing heroics between the posts.
