| Premier Division leaders Derry City maintained their unbeaten defensive record with a comfortable 2-0 away victory on Saturday evening at near neighbours Finn Harps. The result means that Derry have increased their lead at the top of the division to two points and after the fifth series of games have yet to concede a goal. A crowd of more than 3,000 was at Dalymount Park on Friday evening when Bohemians entertained Cork City. The Leesiders were followed by a travelling band of about 200 who with drums pounding maintained a noisy and incessant volume of support throughout the match. Cork were good value for their 2-0 victory with the goals being scored by Denis Behan and in the final minute, under 21 international, Kevin Doyle. Reigning champions, Shelbourne continued their improvement with a comfortable 3-1 victory over St Patrick’s Athletic at Tolka Park while UCD caused something of a surprise with their first win of the season, a 1-0 Belfield Park success over high flying Waterford United. Bray
Wanderers fell to their first defeat of the season when they went
down 2-1 against Longford Town in Flancare Park while the travails
of Shamrock Rovers continued as Drogheda United defeated them 2-1
in United Park.
In the upcoming Series 6 of the Premier Division, Derry will be expected to maintain their grasp on the leadership when they entertain Shamrock Rovers at the Brandywell on Friday evening. Bohemians
will meet Finn Harps and Bray will entertain Waterford on Friday evening
while Drogheda will travel to Cork and this week’s Dublin ‘derby’
will see St Pats meet UCD. Shelbourne will face a tough examination
on Saturday evening when they travel to Flancare Park to meet Longford
Town.
