2 of the Setanta Cup Competition reached the halfway stage on Monday evening
April 11th when Cork City travelled north to the Shamrock Park in Portadown.
The match, which was shown live on Setanta Sports, was fairly uneventful throughout the first half with Cork being the slightly more prominent side. The second half improved a little and the stalemate was broken on 63 minutes when Irish under 21 international Kevin Doyle opened the scoring for Cork City. Cork however failed to build on this momentum and were exposed in the 77th minute when former Derry City player Darren Kelly headed the equaliser for Portadown. The result will have pleased Shelbourne, the third team in the group, who despite been very disappointing in their opening two fixtures still remain in contention. Group 1 of the competition will reach it’s halfway stage on Tuesday evening next, April 19th when Linfield and Glentoran clash in the Belfast ‘derby’ at Windsor Park. Group 1
