Supple Stars for Ipswich

Shane Supple © ITSWIpswich Town won the FA Youth Cup with a 1 nil second leg victory over Southampton at an excited Portman Road. The winning goal was scored by
15 year old substitute Edward Upson two minutes from the end of extra time.

The match was dominated by favourites Southampton who had several chances. They were however, repelled repeatedly by Dublin born goalkeeper,Shane Supple who had a magnificent game. On the only accasion that Southampton found a way past Supple, the offside flag against Leon Best came to his rescue.

Ipswich who were without Owen Garvan and Billy Clarke, who also missed the first leg, defended resolutely throughout the 120 minutes with Michael Synott and Cathal Lordan prominent.
