Irish Referees Upgraded by UEFA
Irish Refereeing has been uplifted by the news that two of its elite referees have been upgraded in the UEFA ranking list.

Alan Kelly (Cork) has been upgraded to Category 2 and Ian Stokes (Dublin) to Category 3. Both men are graduates of the FAI's School of Excellence programme for new referees introduced five years ago with the intention of fast-tracking the best of the young referees from around the Country.

Referee Exchange

It has been announced that the Eircom Premier Division match between Cork City and Drogheda United scheduled for Turners Cross on Friday 22 April 2005 will be officiated by a referee from the Scottish Football Association. As part of a reciprocal arrangement one of Ireland's referees will officiate at a future Scottish League Fixture.

It is hoped to extend this type of arrangement, which is fully endorsed by UEFA, to incorporate exchanges with the Irish Football Association and the Football Association of Wales.
