lose Judical appeal...31/01/2007
Mr Justice Frank Clarke today rejected the appeal by Limerick FC against their failure to obtain a licence from the FAI Licencing Committee. The Judge also lifted the review ban, enabling the FAI to proceed with their evaluation of the applicants to fill the vacant league positions. Stephen Staunton has called up six youngsters to face San Marino in the EURO 2008 qualifier, to be played in the Serravale Stadium on Wednesday 7 February 2007. Teenage Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Darren Randolph, is joined by midfielders Darron Gibson and Stephen Quinn, while the strike force is augmented by Andy Keogh, Shane Long and Anthony Stokes.

withdraw from Setanta Cup...30/01/2007 The troubles surrounding Eircom League Champions Shelbourne were further heightened this evening when the club withdrew from the Setanta Cup. St Patricks Athletic have been invited to replace the Tolka Park side in the competition which gets underway on Monday 26 February 2007 with the meeting of holders Drogheda United and Belfast giants Linfield. The RISSC (London) annual Charity Quiz event took place at the Crown Moran Hotel on Friday 26 January 2007 with all proceeds being donated to Cystinosis Foundation Ireland...More>

U18 squad announced...26/01/2007 Manager Sean McCaffrey has announced his squad for a friendly fixture against Holland to be played in Richmond Park on Wednesday 7 February 2007. Much interest will surround the merits of goalkeepers James McKeown and Shane Redmond, both of whom look capable of joining an impressive list of young candidates to succeed Shay Given in the coming years. A much changed Ireland was defeated in Tolka Park tonight by two goals to nil. Showing six changes from Tuesday's starting eleven, Ireland did not perform as they did in the opener and two second half goals gave the Italian visitors a deserved victory. Superb U17s defeat Italy...23/01/2007 Gareth Matthew's header, taken from a superb Shane O'Connor free-kick, gave Ireland a deserved 1 nil victory over Italy tonight. Report> Sean McCaffrey's Ireland U17 team play Italy at Home Farm on Tuesday night and Tolka Park on Thursday of this week. A big attendance is expected to see some of the very talented emerging players. While all eyes are likely to be on the much heralded James McCarthy, who is expected to make his Irish debut, there are several other players to look out for, including Ian Daly, Conor McCormack and James O'Brien.

crash to humiliating defeat...21/01/2007 The RISSC football team suffered a shattering 9-2 defeat this afternoon in the return of their opening day fixture with Norwich City SC. A very below par RISSC defended in a shambolic manner from the outset, allowing Norwich to seemingly score at will. A six nil deficit at half time says it all. The day was furthered dampened by a ligament injury to Mauricio Carillo which is likely to keep him out of the game for several weeks. Manager Paul Franklin and his squad face a daunting week as they prepare for their cup quarter-final against Aberdeen next Sunday.

League of Ireland faces major challenge...21/01/2007 The new FAI governed League of Ireland is currently in a state of limbo with the well publicised financial and player drama at league Champions Shelbourne and the legal action involving Limerick, casting an unwelcome cloud over the new venture. St Kevins Boys duo, Robert Brady and Conor Murphy twice, scored the goals in a 3-2 victory. Manager Vincent Butler was delighted with the performance of his players, several of whom he believes will have a bright future in the game. McCarthy selected in U17 squad...09/01/2007 Ireland U17 manager Sean McCaffrey has, as expected, included Scottish born James McCarthy of Hamilton Academicals in his squad to face Italy in two friendly fixtures next week. McCarthy, who qualifies through his late grandfather from Donegal, is currently the subject of much transfer speculation. The youngster spent time last week at the Liverpool academy and is currently the guest of Reading FC. The first match takes place at Home Farm FC in Whitehall on Tuesday 23 January and the second game in Tolka Park on Thursday 25 January. Both matches kick-off at 7.00pm. U15s triumph in Qatar...09/01/2007 Vincent Butler introduced the remaining members of his squad for this second encounter with the U16 Aspire Academy of Qatar this afternoon. Ireland played with much greater assurance than in their opening match and a Jordan Phillpott goal immediately following the half time interval settled the match. In truth, Ireland dominated throughout, hitting the woodwork on three occasions during the first half. The third and final meeting between the two sides takes place on Thursday afternoon. Butlers Boys quelled in Qatar...07/01/2007 The Ireland U15 side, showing signs of their tiring journey the previous day, fell behind to two first half goals from the Aspire Academy U16 Qatar side this afternoon. Vincent Butlers' charges showed much greater urgency in the second half, but were unable to reduce the deficit. The sides meet again on Tuesday afternoon and Butler expects a much improved performance from his team.

has second thoughts...07/01/2007 Having earlier agreed in principle a 4½ year deal with Charlton Athletic, the Arsenal striker Anthony Stokes has been persuaded to change his mind by Roy Keane and join Sunderland. Stokes will return to the Stadium of Light to undergo a medical on Monday morning before signing a 3½ year contract. Clamour to sign Stokes...03/01/2007 Anthony Stokes will meet with several interested clubs over the next few days as he seeks to secure his immediate footballing future and continue his vibrant success of recent weeks. It is understood that four prominent clubs have matched Arsenals' valuation of him, and all have been granted permission to speak with Anthony and his representatives. It is also believed that other clubs may meet the valuation and enter the market for the hugely talented Stokes. |
