The team continue to rise through the rankings and their next goal will be qualification to the World Cup finals. Women's
international football is split into two divisions with the top teams
competing for qualification while the lower ranked countries compete
for promotion to the top flight. Ireland were ranked as a second division team up until 2004 but finished top of European Championship group ahead of Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Malta winning promotion to top flight for the first time. Courtesy of www.rte.ie
