Republic of Ireland 'A' 4-2 Wales 'A'
The
final match of the tournament produced a feast of goals for a large attendance
with Ireland captain Robbie Brady of St Kevin's Boys much to the fore.
Ireland settled quickly to their task and with ten minutes on the clock took the lead. Right back Leigh Swords delivered a fine ball behind the Welsh defence for Brady and the captain executed a delicate lob to the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Ireland increased their lead. A left wing corner from Brady was not properly cleared and arrived at the feet of centre back Mark O'Brien. The Cherry Orchard youngster took deliberate aim and fired the ball into the roof of the net.
Ireland
continued to dominate and with half time approaching scored a third and decisive
goal. Another Brady corner, this time from the right, was returned to him
and taking a few paces forward the St Kevin's captain struck a viciuous left
foot cross cum shot which had too much pace for the goalkeeper and nestled
in the back of the net.
From the re-start, Wales showed some spirit and carved out a close range goal from Proctor to cut the deficit to two. Their hopes of a recovery were speedily dashed when an ever alert Ethan Mannion of St Kevin's Boys pounced on defensive frailty to restore Ireland's three goal advantage.
The Irish boys were comfortably in command and, while disappointed with the concession of a second goal to the industrious Welsh striker Proctor on sixty seven minutes, remained composed to the end.
