Cork City are Eircom League Champions…18/11/2005 A packed house of 7500 in Turners Cross, watched Cork City lift the Eircom Premier League title with a 2-0 victory over Derry City. Cork went into the game knowing that only a win would enable them to fulfil their dream of the Championship. Damian Richardson’s team have played some of the best football seen in the Eircom League this season, and despite the pressure of needing a victory, Cork held their nerve. Goals from John O’Flynn after 18 minutes, and a strike from Liam Kearney on the hour mark, gave them a thoroughly deserved victory. Setanta Sports Cup 2006…14/11/2005 Representatives of all participating parties met this afternoon to review the structure, format and match dates for the 2006 tournament. The competition will comprise four teams from both the FAI and the IFA. Their will be two groups, each containing two teams from the respective leagues. The teams will meet on a home and away basis in the group stage. There will be one legged semi-finals, with home advantage accruing to each group winner and a one-off final. The competition will commence on Monday 20 February 2006 with the final scheduled for Saturday 22 April 2006. The group draw will take place in Dublin on Monday 12 December 2006. The IFA will be represented by Dungannon Swifts, Glentoran, Linfield (Holders) and Portadown. The FAI will be represented by Cork City, Derry City, Shelbourne and either Bohemians or Drogheda United.
