| Club Team get off to solid start in League | ![]() |
| The
Club team set out on their campaign to win promotion from Division Two
of the APFSCIL League with a visit to Wandsworth where they faced Aberdeen
in their opening fixture. Despite some late withdrawals, manager Paul
Franklin, was able to field a strong starting eleven bolstered by the
appearance of Emmet Mannion and Adrian Ward ‘fresh’ off the
plane from Kos at 6am. Bedecked in their sparkling new strip, provided by FAIreland and captained by Liam Kelly, the team got off to a positive start and took the game to their opponents. Several half chances presented themselves with early efforts from Mick Coffey and Jon Carey just missing the target. There were further close calls for Aberdeen with strikers Liam Kelly and Phil O’Dwyer together with Tim Nagle all going close. RISSC made the breakthrough some ten minutes into the second half when Tim Nagle drove a delightful 35 yard floater over the home goalkeeper. The advantage was however, shortlived, when with cente back Karl McGee receiving attention for a post goal celebratory nose injury, an immediate break by Aberdeen saw a left wing cross diverted past goalkeeper Darren Nolan by an Irish player. Undaunted, the Club team continued to press the opposition and were rewarded when Adrian Ward released Phil O’Dwyer down the left and his cross was driven home by Mick Coffey. A few minutes later, O’Dwyer was in the right place at the right time to score a third and secure a well deserved opening league victory for the Club. The Club will meet Manchester United in their first home league fixture on Sunday 18th September 2005 at the London Postal Regional Sports and Social Club at Sudbury Hill with a 2pm kick-off.
