The Republic of Ireland Schools team is comprised of players who remain in further education and a number of the squad members are attached to Airtricity League Clubs. The International Team competes annually for the Carnegie Centenary Shield with the Celtic Cup also at stake in the Northern Ireland fixture. The team opened their 2012 season with a two three defeat in a friendly fixture against the visiting Australian Schools at the Oscar Traynor Centre, Coolock Dublin 5 on Friday 27th January 2012. Our 2012 Centenary Shield campaign kicks off at Pike Rovers FC, Limerick on Friday 16th March 2012 when the Republic of Ireland play host to Northern Ireland. Ireland will play their second match against Scotland at the RSC, Waterford on Friday 30th March 2012. On Thursday, the 12th April 2012, the Republic of Ireland will travel to meet Wales at Carmarthen Town FC and they will complete their programme against England in front of the live Sky Sports cameras at the Amex Stadium, home of Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday the 26th April 2012.
